Do you know what the word bias is? We use it all the time, everyday and when we think. Bias is similar to the word opinion and you don't take sides to the story. For example if I said, " I hate pizza." You would think I'm crazy to not like pizza. But in journalism the base of it is, "Everyone likes or dislikes some foods that other likes or dislikes."
To understand how to avoid writing bias in journalism is hard at times. You have to take both sides of the story to not make a conflict. Like for example, showing the name, race, gender or age of the victim. In journalism opinions are not optional, they are not allowed. But its true that all of us have opinions to one side or to the other side of the story. But still there is some opinions that are true and other not true.
Lets say that someone was to write about "The Newly Invented Pizza". - The newly invented pizza was made with the worlds best cheese and tomatoes with the freshest dough. Many people have tried the pizza and everyone rates it #1 pizza ever made. - The example of this is to not have opinions. A bad example of this with the same topic "The Newly Invented Pizza" is - The newly invented pizza!! It have final been made!! It's so yummy that you have to try. It's made of the worlds best ingredients like the cheese and tomatoes. I know that i would rate it #1 pizza and I know that everyone will rate it #1 too! - This obviously shows a journal with bias but the true is that not everyone would rate it "#1 pizza" (like me).
Using the word "bias" in my journalism is like trying to caught a mouse with sound and not cheese. You have write about the story with no one sided opinions. Its kinda hard to do that some times. But when I first read what bias was, i like it because it something we are doing right now. Bias fits into journalism for the reason that opinion and are the similar but they can offend others in journalism.
